Attire
With a beach themed wedding, the attire should be casual. The focus should be on the bride and her preferences of comfort and style. Hawaiian attire with a bikini top and sarong are popular choices for beach weddings. A simple white flowing wedding dresses gown is also acceptable. Beach attire, such as bermuda shorts and Hawaiian shirts, is popular for men. Shoes are optional at most beach weddings, simple wedding dresses as most couples encourage the wedding party and guests to dress for comfort.
Reception
The reception can oftentimes be held at or nearby the wedding location. Tents and tables are set up to carry on the same theme from the wedding. Tropical flowers, candles, tiki lights and hurricane lanterns are popular accents for the reception. A large dock or deck overlooking the water can be used as a dance area if desired. Caterers can serve food on the beach where the wedding guests can continue to mingle and enjoy the natural beauty of the seashore.
Considerations
The time of the wedding is necessary in overall planning. Sunset ceremonies are the most popular, as they eliminate the heat of the afternoon sun and the turbulent late morning waters. Keeping a close eye on the weather is the most important key to the success of the ceremony. Watching for high tides, hurricanes and tropical storms is essential in saving money and keeping the wedding party and guests safe and comfortable. Determining whether the beach is public or private is also important in the planning process. For a public beach, the area will have to be reserved so there is adequate privacy. For private locations, the area may need to be rented and permission must be granted by the property owner first. Always have a backup plan in case of inclement weather.
